Built-In Chicago, the online community for startups and tech companies, recently published an interview featuring Aquilon product manager Holly Meyer.
Make time to read the entire article. It’s chock full of good career advice with plenty of insight into why Aquilon is such a great place to work.Holly makes the point that she wasn’t thinking about going into tech after college. Her degree was in communications and electronic media and soon after graduation she began to work at a large retail company.
As technology gradually found its way into the retail industry, Holly saw her role evolve into that of a systems administrator. Though she wasn’t aware of it at the time, Holly was learning how to perform as the human interpreter between applications and the people who needed to use the software.
The experience of helping people identify what problems they need to solve with technology has served Holly well at Aquilon. She leads the business analysis team that is responsible for defining the customers’ requirements for each enhancement to the Energy Settlement Network®, a platform that is used to settle wholesale energy transactions between power producers.
As industry veteran, Holly has this advice for young women (and men) who are at the beginning of their careers. “There are so many opportunities in IT that aren’t about coding: business analysts, project managers, technical writers, software quality testers. Find what you’re passionate about, learn all you can and go for it.”
